The twelfth episode of Koffee With Karan was a special one. Not only was it the debut of two of the Fabulous Bollywood Wives on the Kouch, but it also marked Gauri Khan’s return to the show after 17 years.

The queen of star wives in Bollywood has managed to remain an enigma, despite her husband Shah Rukh Khan being one of the most successful and popular celebrities in the country. We got glimpses of her personality through her few appearances alongside her close friends, and fellow guests on the Kouch, Maheep Kapoor and Bhavana Pandey on their Netflix reality show Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, but the episode promised to show a side of the interior designer that we haven’t seen before.

From outrageous anecdotes to some real talk about the hardships they’ve faced, here are all the top highlights from the twelfth episode of Koffee With Karan

Gauri Khan on the baggage of being a star wife

Khan revealed that she finds herself coming up against the huge boulder that is her being the wife of one of the biggest actors in the country. While sometimes, it works in her favour, with people being interested to bring her on board as their interior designer because of a morbid interest in her private life, more often than not, it’s the opposite. She admitted that there have been times when she has lost out on projects because people do not want to deal with, what they consider, a spoilt, snobby star wife. Khan magnanimously declares that she understands how they feel, and she probably would do the same too.

Bhavna Pandey on success being relative

When asked about the fact that her friend’s husbands might be more successful than her own, Pandey replied saying that, to her, success is relative. She explained that when she got married to Chunky Pandey, he had already moved on from being the lead star in movies. So she never got to experience his superstardom and, therefore, didn’t feel like much had changed. She said that her husband’s success lies in the friendships he has formed within the industry and, to her, that’s more valuable than anything else.

Maheep Kapoor on tough times

The reality TV star revealed that she, and her family, has witnessed some hard times that nobody can relate to, while acknowledging that she was speaking from a place of privilege. In true Maheep Kapoor fashion, she spoke candidly about how her husband, actor Sanjay Kapoor, was without work for several years leading to money being tight around the house and how it was a tough time that her children witnessed first-hand while growing up.

Ananya Panday, Suhana Khan, and Shanaya Kapoor’s roast of their moms

One of the testaments to the longevity and depth of their friendship is the close bond shared by their daughters. The three star kids left their mothers a hilarious (and heartwarming) video message where they spoke about the quirks shared by the three women, including their stalker tendencies. Suhana and Ananya spilled some of their mothers’ embarrassing secrets, like how Gauri pretends to not know English when she wants to avoid talking to foreigners or their proclivity to wear the complimentary airline pyjamas around the house.

It should come as no surprise that the episode’s best moment happened when SRK made a brief appearance, OK it was just his voice, during a segment of the show. In order to win a big prize, the guests have to call a celebrity and have them say ‘Hey’ to Karan. When the host informed Gauri that she would get extra points if she managed to get SRK on the phone, she rose to the challenge and got hold of the busy superstar. The actor was his usual charming self and helped his wife score those extra points in the end.
