Out of all the people in the world, musicians always have a very interesting story to tell when it comes to their journey of success. While many fail to achieve fame, some artists succeed and create art that not only completely changes their life but also the lives of many others around the world. And their journey of hard work, dedication, passion, and love is good enough to inspire a whole generation of aspiring artists.

Here are some of our favourite music biopics that have truly made us believe (and will make you too) that everything is possible if you just keep at it.

Elvis (2022)

The king of Rock ’n‘ Roll, Elvis Presley lived a life larger than anyone else. Bringing the icon to the big screen, Austin Butler delivered a career-changing performance with the 2022 film, Elvis. Directed by the iconic Baz Luhrmann, the film follows the rise and fall of Elvis Presley and how one move changed his entire life. The film is narrated from the perspective of his estranged manager, Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks, who was later considered the culprit behind Presley’s downfall and untimely death.

The Oscar-nominated film, tick, tick...BOOM! was one of the biggest musical hits of 2021. Starring Andrew Garfield, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexandra Shipp, and Jordan Fisher, the film is based on American composer, Jonathan Larson and his life in New York as an aspiring composer. Larson’s need to create something impactful while maintaining his relationships and friendships takes him on an entirely different journey of ups and downs.

One of the biggest films to truly make an impact, Straight Outta Compton focuses on a hip-hop group from Compton, California, N.W.A and its members, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. The film shows how the group found themselves on a path of revolutionising their music while showing the people around them how much their music matters. This film shows the lives of some of the best hip-hop artists and rappers and how they achieved fame.

Queen is one of the most iconic bands in the entire world who are present and relevant even today. Bohemian Rhapsody revolves around Freddie Mercury and his band, Queen, as he and his bandmates Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor thrive to create music that never fits the norm. With his impeccable vocal talent, Mercury finds himself lost in tremendous success and fame while coming to terms with his sexuality and his fatal illness. Starring Rami Malik, who won a much-deserved Oscar for his performance, this one should be on the top of your watch list.

Selena Quintanilla Pérez was a true icon, who is still very much present in our hearts even today. The 1997 film, Selena, starring Jennifer Lopez, revolves around the popular Tejano music star’s life and how she rose to fame at a very young age. While she captivated audiences with her style, charm, and talent, her ill-fate played out cruelly when she died at just 23 after being shot by the president of her fan club. While this film does end on a tragic note, it does showcase how people in Mexico and around the world adored her.

The film that follows the life of iconic British musician, Elton John, the 2019 hit, Rocketman depicts the rise of the ‘Rocket Man’ and his love for music. Reginald Kenneth Dwight has always had a spark for music, but things change when he meets John Reid, a music manager who shows him the path to fame and success while also taking him on a ride of a lifetime. Starring Taron Egerton as Elton John, the actor matches John’s quirk and extravagance to the finest.

Starring Dennis Quaid, Winona Ryder, and Alec Baldwin, the 1989 film, Great Balls Of Fire follows the life of the popular ’70s singer and pianist, Jerry Lee Lewis. When Franklin thinks that she’s reached the end, faith comes to her rescue and she finally finds her way back to where she belongs. A truly inspiring and heart-warming story, this is a must-watch.
