The much-anticipated episode featuring Kareena Kapoor, AKA ‘The Unofficial Best Guest on Koffee With Karan’, is here! The actress appeared on the show with Aamir Khan, just ahead of the release of their upcoming film Lal Singh Chaddha.

Karan Johar started off the episode with a monologue that called out everyone in the audience who obsessively follow news about star kids, especially Taimur Ali Khan, saying that we’re the ones who catapult these celebrity babies to star status, right from the moment they’re born, so we can’t fully blame the director for investing in these celebrity kids who are already stars.

Screen testing for the first time

Kapoor revealed that Khan made her do a screen test for Lal Singh Chaddha as he wasn’t sure of her casting in the movie. She recalled being shocked and surprised when cameras showed up in her office to record her enacting a scene from the script. When asked if that was because of an ego issue, she denied it, saying that it was mostly because she had never been asked to do a screen test before and she was scared and nervous.

What goes on in Bollywood parties

When Johar roasted Khan for being “boring” and a “party pooper”, the actor jokingly retaliated by dissing the director’s star-studded 50th birthday bash. He said that all he could see was the guests shouting at the top of their voice because they couldn’t hear each other as loud music was playing nonstop in the background. Khan expressed his confusion at the loud volume of the music because nobody was dancing at the party.

Shade on Vicky-Katrina and Ranbir-Alia

During the infamous Rapid Fire round, Kapoor was asked what newly married celebrity couples could learn from her and Saif Ali Khan, she instantly replied with a “Not everything has to be documented.” Is that shade or not? We’ll let you decide.

Modern family dynamics

Khan opened up about his equation with his ex-wives Reena Dutta and Kiran Roy. “I have the highest regard and respect for both of them,” he said, adding that they’ll always be family, “We all get together once a week, no matter how busy we are. There is a lot of genuine care, love, and respect towards each other.” He also revealed how the pandemic gave him time for intense self introspection and made him realise that he did not nurture his personal relationships like he should have and that he is trying to work on this by spending more time with his children.

The roast of Karan Johar

It’s not a KWK episode without the guests calling out Johar for all things, including the show and his movies. Khan joined Samantha Prabhu in dragging Johar for his filmmaking choices. While Prabhu had announced that he was the reason why marriages don’t work in India (because he sets unrealistic expectations through his films), Khan told Johar that the character of ‘Poo (played by Kapoor) was the only bearable thing about Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. We can’t say we don’t fully agree with Khan on that one!
