Much before the over-active PR machinery that has changed celebrity culture in India, Bollywood celebrities used to say things that were actually on their minds on-screen, without caring about the consequences! In the show’s third season, Kapoor was tasked with revealing the questions she would ask her fellow celebrities. When it came to Priyanka Chopra, Kapoor wasted no time before asking “Where does she get her accent from?”.
Chopra appeared on the show a few episodes later and smoothly answered the question by saying, “Same place your boyfriend gets it from”. Yikes! The two actresses were invited to appear together in the sixth season and addressed their catty comments from back then and made up with each other.
When she could not understand why everyone was obsessed with her son Taimur
Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan’s first child Taimur Ali Khan became the nation’s number one celebrity a few minutes after his birth. His popularity only continued to grow over the years, with paparazzi documenting his every move and newspapers and websites churning out headlines dedicated to him by the dozen.
When asked about his transformation into a national news subject, Kapoor expressed her bafflement at his popularity. She admitted that she was afraid that all the fame would go into his head and (jokingly) said that one day he would resort to violence if his photo wasn’t taken. But when the actor appeared on the show with his cousin sister, the Jab We Met actress wasted no opportunity to highlight Ranbir’s relationship with Kaif, including picking her for a same-sex encounter (“on gunpoint” Johar would add, to appease the cis-het audience) because according to Kapoor, Kaif was going to be her sister-in-law.
When she called out Priyanka Chopra for ‘forgetting her roots’
It has been revealed time and again on the show that everyone goes to Kapoor for any Bollywood gossip because she knows everything about everybody. The actress has admitted to this fact herself and has made it very clear that she takes this knowledge business very seriously. So when Chopra couldn’t get the answer to “Who is Tiger Shroff dating?” right, the Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham actress was rightfully miffed. She called out Chopra for playing it safe and boring and admonished her for “forgetting her roots”.
When she was self-aware of her fabulousness
One of the biggest reasons why Kapoor is a celebrity like nobody else is because she is never afraid to be her own hypeman. In Jab We Met, when Kapoor (as Geet) admitted that she’s her own favourite person, it wasn’t far off from her off-screen persona as well. Kapoor has given us gems of self-love in many interviews over the years, but her best response was when she was asked which Bollywood actor she looks best with, other than her husband. Without missing a beat, she replied, “I make everyone look good”. And she is not wrong!
