Pride month has gotten off to a great start, especially for romantic comedy fans. Not only did we finally get to see who is going to play the leads in the upcoming adaptation of queer romance book Red, White & Royal Blue, but we’ve also got a preview of the first rom-com starring a trans lead.

After playing memorable roles in shows and movies like Pose and the Cinderella musical, actor Billy Porter is making his debut as a director. The movie is called Anything’s Possible and is a trans coming-of-age dramedy about a young high school student figuring out life and relationships.

The movie follows trans high school senior Kelsa (Eva Reign), who is navigating her first relationship, friendships, and life with her single mother (Renee Elise Goldsberry).

Unlike most of the trans experiences portrayed onscreen, the movie will be about the joy of being queer. Porter told Variety in an interview that the movie is almost a fairytale. “This is an aspirational story. It’s almost like a fairytale,” he said, “We know that. It’s a look at what we can be. That’s what we as artists get to do — look at what we can be and what we should be.”

The movie, releasing on Amazon Prime Video on July 22, will still have the underlying themes of bullying faced by queer people, especially young high school kids, and dealing with transitoning.
