If you’re someone who is tired of the spectacle and drama of the sudden influx of superhero content to stream and watch, then this is your week because Panchayat is returning with a second season. The slice-of-life comedy by Amazon Prime Video became a surprise hit in 2020 with its cast of veteran actors like Neena Gupta and Raghubir Yadav, and grounded storylines. The story followed Abhishek Tripathi, an engineering graduate who had to take up a job as a Panchayat secretary in a remote Uttar Pradesh village called Phulera because of meager job prospects.

After a much-loved first season, the show is back with the villagers and Abhishek, along with some new characters, and we can’t wait to visit Phulera again!

In case you’re still on the fence about whether you should spend your weekend binge-watching the show or not, here are five reasons why you should watch the second season of Panchayat right away…

We’re meeting some new faces along with old favourites

Most of the original cast, including Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, Biswapati Sarkar, Faisal Malik, and Chandan Roy, are reprising their roles in the second season. We will also see more of Dubey’s daughter Rinky, played by Sanvikaa, this time. Gullak’s Bittu ki mummy Sunita Rajwar is also joining the cast for the second season.

If you’re missing Gullak, then this is a perfect watch for you

Speaking of Gullak, the show was a perfect mix of funny and heartwarming moments. Panchayat’s second season is perfect to fill the hole left by the slice-of-life show with its quirky blend of characters and relatable story arcs.

Superlative performances by the main and supporting cast

While a great performance is always expected from veteran actors like Gupta and Yadav, the performances of the rest of the cast matches their caliber and how. Kumar gives a memorable performance as the reluctant secretary of the village Panchayat, while the supporting cast shines in their respective roles. The actors will make you forget you’re watching a show and transport you straight to the dusty lanes of Phulera in no time.

We’ll find out whether Abhishek achieves his dreams or not

A lot of questions went unanswered when the first season ended. Now that the second season is here, we will finally be able to find out whether or not Abhishek manages to clear his CAT exams. Or what happened when he met Rinky? There’s also a possibility of seeing more of Manju Devi and her responsibilities as the real pradhan of the village. All your questions will be answered with the eight-episode long series.

More Phulera anytime

The first season made us fall in love with Phulera and its residents and we discovered the village through Abhishek’s eyes. This time we would get to see more of the people who inhabit the place and go deeper into their dynamics.

Panchayat Season 2 is available to be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
