A new trailer for the much-anticipated Star Wars spinoff Obi-Wan Kenobi dropped, fittingly, on May the Fourth. The new teaser focuses on the Inquisitor’s search for the rogue Jedi Master who is on the run from the Empire.

The six-part series, or event as the makers are calling it, joins previous Star Wars TV series like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett to be a part of the extended universe. Ewan McGregor is reprising his role as the Jedi on the run and Hayden Christensen is also taking on the mantle of Darth Vader after 17 years. While the original trilogy introduced us to an older Obi-Wan who lived as a recluse on Tatooine, the upcoming series delves deep into the time between where we last saw him after the prequels and the time he meets Luke Skywalker and runs away with him on an intergalactic adventure.

The series also mark the return of Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse as Luke’s Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru from the prequels. Edgerton can be seen warning Obi-Wan to stay away from Luke despite the Jedi’s insistence that he deserves to learn and become a Jedi (only to be harshly reminded of how that turned out with Luke’s dad AKA Darth Vader).

Kumail Nanjiani is also making his big debut in the Star Wars universe with this series but has a blink-and-you-miss appearance in the trailer. The nearly two-minute-long teaser ends with a glimpse of Darth Vader’s suit being assembled and the sound of his characteristic mechanical breathing as Obi-Wan looks at the camera in horror.

The series also stars Indira Verma and Rupert Friend and is slated to release on Disney+ Hotstar on May 27, 2022.
