Easily one of the most anticipated movies of recent times, director Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra cannot be out sooner! Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Amitabh Bachchan in pivotal roles, the movie has been in the news since 2017 and has been delayed because of the pandemic. But the movie overlords have finally granted us mercy and the first look and final release date of the movie was finally shared with the fans late last year.
Best known for his easy-breezy coming-of-age movie Wake Up Sid and romance Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Mukerji has taken a departure from the usual to create this epic fantasy fiction trilogy. In an interview with Deadline, the director revealed that he was a big fan of Western fantasy fiction and wanted to create something that was inspired by Star Wars and Avatar to create a universe that was completely original. He also said that the anticipation of fans has added huge pressure on him to deliver a grand fantasy epic. It’s also one of India’s most expensive films and has, reportedly, crossed it’s intital Rs. 300 Crore budget.
Recently, on Bhatt’s birthday, the makers also shared the first look of her character, Isha, with the world, making fans even more excited about the movie.
What is Brahmastra about?
The premise of the trilogy follows a secret society, known as the ‘Brahmansh’, who have been tasked with protecting many divine ancient Indian astras (weapons) over generations and safeguarding them from the world. The first part in the series, Brahmastra centers around Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) who learns that he has a mysterious connection to the Brahmastra and has a power within him that he has to understand how to wield. He has to travel back in time to learn about his newfound powers and the ancient weapon and, ultimately, save the world.
Who all are in Brahmastra?
Aside from Kapoor and Bhatt, the movie also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Dimple Kapadia and Prateik Babbar. Actress Mouni Roy is also going to be a part of the movie and has admitted that she’s going to be playing an antagonist in the movie. Producer Karan Johar has also revealed that actor Shah Rukh Khan has a “massive cameo” in the movie.
Who has given music for Brahmastra?
With an epic film like this, the music has to be equally grand. The task has fallen on Pritam and we can’t wait to see what the music director comes up with for the film. The lyrics have been penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya so the anticipation for the music album are sky high.
When is it releasing?
After many, many (and there were many!) delays, the movie is finally going to release in theatres on 9.9.2022 in five languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
