3 Rum-Based Cocktail Recipes That Are Perfect For The Summer

Rum is known to be a winter drink, especially in India. Most of us have enjoyed a couple pegs of Old Monk to help warm up our bodies during the latter months of the year. However, typecasting it as just a winter drink isn’t fair to the spirit. With the mercury showing no signs of slowing down these days, your alcohol preferences may have taken a hit too.

However, there are so many cocktails that are typically enjoyed on hot summer days by the beach or the pool that are rum-based. In fact, pair the spirit with some fruit juice and you’ll be transported to a tropical location with your first sip. So, we got in touch with the good people at Raddison Blu, who have a lot of experiencing of serving refreshing drinks by some of the world’s prettiest beaches, and asked them for help.

So, if you’re craving a drink to take the edge off a stressful day, here are some lovely rum-based cocktail recipes to indulge in. Not only will they help lift your spirits, these come with the promise of a break from both the heat and the stress.

3 Rum-Based Cocktail Recipes For The Summer:

1. Pina colada


  • 2 cups Ice Cubes
  • 1 ½ cups of frozen Pineapple Chunks
  • 30ml Pineapple Juice
  • 30ml Cream of Coconut
  • 30ml White Rum
  • 30ml cup Lion Daddy Rum (Dark Rum)
  • 1-2 tbsp Lime Juice
  • 4 Pineapple Slices
  • 4 Maraschino Cherries (with stems)


  1. Blend the ice, frozen pineapple, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, white and dark rum and lime juice until smooth.
  2. Pour the mixture into a glass of your choice.
  3. Garnish it with a pineapple slice and maraschino cherry for a delightful finishing touch.

2. Daiquiri


  • 2oz White Rum
  • ¾ oz fresh Lime Juice
  • 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
  • Lime wheel, for garnish


  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Add the white rum, fresh lime juice and simple syrup to the shaker.
  3. Shake well for about 15 seconds or until chilled.
  4. Strain the mixture into a chilled coupe glass.
  5. Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim of the glass.

3. Rum-Infused Nannari Sharbat Cocktail


  • 100 grams Nannari Powder
  • 2 oz White Rum
  • 5 cups Water
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 3 - 4 tbsp Nannari Syrup
  • Lemon Juice
  • Ice cubes


Preparing Nannari Syrup:

  1. First, take 5 cups of water in a pan and add 100 grams of Nannari powder.
  2. Mix well with a spoon or whisk. Cover and soak for 2 to 3 hours.
  3. Then, add 1 cup of sugar in the same pan.
  4. Keep the pan on the stove top and cook on a low flame. Stir so that all the sugar dissolves.
  5. Cook for about 20 to 30 minutes till the syrup reduces by ⅓ and you get a half or one string consistency in it.
  6. Let the solution cool completely.
  7. Then, filter the solution in another pan using a fine sieve or muslin.
  8. Pour the solution in a clean bottle and then refrigerate. This recipe gives about 1 litre of nannari syrup.

To Prepare the Nannari Sharbat Cocktail:

  1. Add ice, 3 - 4 tablespoons of nannari syrup, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 60ml of white rum and some water in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Shake until the ingredients have mixed well together and the mixture has chilled.
  3. Rim the glass with salt and serve.
