The Internet has given us many things, like the ability to see what your and Ryan Gosling’s potential babies would look like after morphing your facial features together (horrifying, 100 percent would not recommend), or an easy way to pass time while looking at cats slapping alligators.
Another thing that the Internet constantly gives is viral trends that we can try and, hopefully, improve our lives. While some are fleeting and better off forgotten as the year ends, there are some that we would love to carry on in 2023 and beyond.
Some of the latter were delicious food-based trends that went viral for all the right reasons. From butter being slathered on wooden boards to a strawberry smoothie that promises to give you smooth skin like Hailey Bieber’s, these are the viral food trends that we loved in 2022…
Billed as the new charcuterie board, Butter Boards became all the rage this year. This versatile and easy-to-put-together food board gained popularity because of TikTok user Justine Doiron who reintroduced the world to the trend that was created by Chef Joshua McFadden back in 2017. If you want to know how to make your own butter board for your New Year’s Eve bash, then here’s how you can do it easily.
A blessing for lazy, or amateur, cooks, this food trend requires ingredients that you can find in your pantry. Popular home chef Emily Mariko’s recipe went viral because of its simplicity. For this pasta recipe, all you need is pasta water, lemon juice, butter, and parmesan. After it started gaining popularity, many people began sharing their own versions of the ‘lemon pasta’ recipe, with a few added ingredients or different cooking techniques.
Hailey Bieber’s Strawberry Glaze Smoothie
Hailey Bieber introduced a delicious step in her glazed beauty journey with this strawberry smoothie. What sets her smoothie apart from other delicious strawberry smoothies is that it promises to give you the beautiful skin of your dreams too. The recipe calls for an almond milk base and includes ingredients like bananas, strawberries, dates, vanilla collagen, sea moss, maple syrup, and strawberry sauce. Bieber collaborated with a popular L.A-based grocery store to bottle up the smoothie and sell it to people who wanted a delicious way to better skin health.
You won’t be wrong in thinking that ‘healthy Coke’ should be an oxymoron. TikTok user Mandy Jones seemingly did the impossible and popularised a healthy alternative to drinks like Coca-Cola by sharing her pilates instructor’s recipe. It called for mixing balsamic vinegar with sparkling soda with some ice. Like most things, it divided the Internet into two camps, the ones who loved it and hailed it to be the alternative to the popular beverage, and the others who hated the taste and didn’t think it could replace the sugary goodness of a glass of Coke.
Green Goddess Salad
While this recipe was originally introduced in 2021, it saw a resurgence in popularity in 2022 with more people getting drawn towards the healthy and delicious (not to forget, simple) salad recipe. As the name suggests, it calls for all things green (think green cabbage, cucumber, chives, and green onion) and it’s super easy to put together. Here’s a quick recipe to try the Green Goddess salad yourself.
While the drink has been around for ages, hundreds of people around the world scrambled to their nearest bar to order themselves a Negroni Sbagliato after House of the Dragon star Emma D’Arcy professed their love for it. In an interview for the show, D’Arcy and their co-star Olivia Cooke discussed their go-to drink orders and they replied in a low, raspy tone, “Negroni…Sbgaliato…with prosecco in it.” The deliberate pauses and the cadence of their voice sent the Internet into a tizzy, promptly leading the drink to trend for weeks to follow. If you want to see whether the drink lives up to its hype, then here’s an easy way you can make it at home.
