One of the downsides of watching Christmas movies is that all the delicious foods and drinks are always beyond our reach. No matter how many snacks you stock up on for your movie night, the onscreen treats look much more delicious. One of the times this always happens is when we’re watching one of the loveliest Christmas movies of all time: The Polar Express.

This Tom Hanks starrer has become a Christmas staple because of its heartwarming story and themes. Even though the animation leaves much to be desired in 2022, the hot chocolate scene from the movie still stands out.

The movie follows a boy as he boards the mysterious titular train to the North Pole and meets Santa Claus. On the train, the children are served delicious-looking hot chocolate with a side of theatrical song and dance as an octet of waiters sing a song about the beverage while they serve the children.

The hot chocolate is shown to be cooking in a special machine carried by a set of pastry chefs who use it to squirt hot chocolate into the air as waiters catch it in big cups.

The drink looks warm, creamy, and delicious and it always leaves us craving a cup of our own.

So this Christmas, follow along with this recipe and make yourself a cup of hot chocolate that will make you feel like you’re onboard the Polar Express.

Ingredients

2 cups milk

2 tbsp granulated sugar

1 cup milk chocolate chips/chopped milk chocolate

1 tbsp cocoa powder

1 can of sweetened condensed milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon coffee

Method

1) In a saucepan, combine milk, chocolate chips, and condensed milk.

2) Add the vanilla extract and coffee. Cook on low heat.

3) Keep stirring the mixture occasionally until all the ingredients are homogenous and the mixture comes to a boil.

4) Pour into your favourite mug and let it cool until safe to drink. You can add your choices of toppings, like marshmallows, chocolate shavings or a pinch of cinnamon based on preference. In the movie, it seemed like they added a dollop of whipped cream on top.
