Actress Rakul Preet Singh is a self-confessed foodie so it’s no surprise that her Instagram feed is littered with pictures of food and the culinary adventures on her many holidays.

The Runway 34 actress is currently in Scotland shooting for an upcoming untitled project with Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar and has been treating her fans to little glimpses of what she’s been up to with her co-stars.

When she’s not indulging in hot chocolates (or “oat milk hot chocolates”, as Kapoor elaborated on Instagram), the actress is treating herself to a delicious frothy cup of beetroot latte.

In case you’re not in the know, beetroot latte is a ‘superdrink’ that’s been a mainstay for health-conscious people for a long time. The vibrant pink colour of the drink, thanks to the beetroot powder, makes it the perfect drink for the ‘gram, so that’s just an added bonus.

Why should you drink a beetroot latte?

Aside from looking amazing, the drink actually packs a whole bunch of nutrients and benefits in a cup. Betacyanin, the pigment that lends the vegetable its characteristic vibrant colour, is a powerful antioxidant. Beetroot is also known to regulate blood pressure, help with digestion, and has anti-inflammatory properties.

The recipe uses beet powder, which is made from freeze-dried beetroot juice. Beetroot powder has one of the highest levels of dietary nitrates, even higher than fresh beetroots. Nitrates help dilate blood vessels and increase blood flow which helps with endurance and muscle recovery. This is also why this makes for a great pre-workout drink.

How to make a beetroot latte at home?

While you can make like Singh and head over to Scotland to drink a beetroot latte, an easier and less expensive way would be to make it yourself at home. Here’s the quick and easy recipe to whip up a beetroot latte.

Ingredients

Beet powder

Milk (regular or plant alternative if you want a vegan latte)

Coconut Milk

Maple Syrup

Vanilla Extract

Method

1) To a saucepan, add the beet powder, maple syrup, and warm water. Mix these together until homogenous.

2) Add the equal parts coconut milk and regular/plant-based milk to the mixture. Pour this into a coffee mug or a tall glass.

3) Whisk some milk separately to froth it and add it on top of the concoction.

4) Enjoy your healthy and delicious drink and don’t forget to post it on Instagram!

While the drink is generally caffeine-free, you can add a shot of espresso to the mixture (before adding the frothy milk on top). But many experts believe that the presence of caffeine reduces the ability for your body to absorb the Vitamin C from the drink.
