The Internet is a gift that keeps on giving, especially when it comes to discovering strange and shocking food recipes that you never thought you would live to see. Think ketchup popsicles or baked bean chocolate cups.

One of the recent strange food combinations that has gone viral for all the right reasons is Sprite and cucumber pickle.

While on first glance, the pairing seems baffling. Why would we combine a fizzy soft drink with a vegetable? But the lime and lemon-flavoured drink actually go very well with cucumber, as the flavours complement each other.

Other pickling essentials, like vinegar, garlic, and chillies, just add that extra bit of punch that makes the pickle surprisingly delicious.

It has also got the stamp of approval from celebrity chef Saransh Goila who tried it for himself recently and proceeded to rave about it in a video.

“The super viral Sprite Cucumber Pickle! Can’t believe this actually works!!! (sic)” he wrote, mentioning that he got the inspiration to try this from his fellow celebrity chef Albert Niazhvinski, who goes by @albert_cancook on Instagram and TikTok, “Internet is full of amazing ideas sometimes. Didn’t expect this to be #delishaaas (sic) but it is!!!! Try it before you form an opinion.”

Are you itching to try this on your own? Here’s how you can do it at home…

1 large cucumber

3-4 lemon slices

1.5 tablespoon sugar

1.5 tablespoon salt

2 tablespoons vinegar

200 ml Sprite

1) Take a cucumber and slice it into thin and long strips. You don’t need to peel the cucumber, just make sure the slices are thin and as even as possible.

2) Stack the strips on top of each other and fold them into a glass container.

3) To this, add the lemon slices, chopped chillies, sugar, salt, vinegar, and the Sprite.

4) Cover the container and let it rest for about two hours. The Sprite-Cucumber pickle is ready for you to enjoy!
