Taylor Swift’s chai sugar cookies are legendary in the world of Tumblr. Before Instagram became our go-to social media platform, Tumblr was not only ours but also Taylor Swift’s ride-or-die. Recently, TikTok brought back the ‘Shake It Off’ singer’s iconic cookie recipe from the singer’s Tumblr page, so obviously Swifties around the world had to try it, and it’s safe to say that it is still as good as it was years ago. For making the basic sugar cookie, Taylor follows the recipe from her favourite cooking blog, Joy The Baker then brings in her personal twist by adding a whole load of tea leaves. This chai sugar cookie is super easy to make and works as a perfect munchie for a girls‘ night in.

So, if you want to bless yourself without deliciously sweet and aromatic cookies, here is how you can make them at home.

Ingredients:

For The Cookie

  • ½ cup Unsalted Butter (preferably at room temperature)
  • ½ cup Vegetable Oil
  • ½ cup Granulated Sugar
  • ½ cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2 Teaspoons of Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Bag Tea Leaves (You can also use your favourite tea bag)
  • 2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • ½ Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ½ Teaspoon Salt

For The Glaze

  • 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • ¼ Teaspoon Nutmeg
  • ¼ Teaspoon Cinnamon Powder
  • 3 Tablespoons of Milk or Eggnog

Instructions

Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, add room temperature butter and beat it on medium speed with an electric mixer until it’s light and fluffy.

Step 2: Then, add oil and mix the batter once again. It is absolutely fine if the two ingredients don’t blend completely.

Step 3: Next, add granulated sugar, powdered sugar, egg, and vanilla extract to the bowl and mix them well.

Step 4: Once your batter is ready, add a bag of tea leaves of your choice and mix them with a wooden spoon.

Step 5: Then, add flour, baking soda, and salt and mix it with an electric mixer until it’s fully combined. Once the dough is ready, keep it in the fridge to chill for at least an hour.

Step 6: Once the dough is chilled and firm, preheat the oven to 350°F. Until it preheats, roll the dough into medium-sized balls and place them on the mat. Sprinkle some powdered sugar on top of the cookie dough balls. Bake the cookies for 8-12 minutes until they start turning golden brown. If you prefer your cookies to be softer, remove them from the oven before the edges start turning brown.

Step 7: While your cookies are baking, add milk, sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon to a bowl and blend them well. If you want to switch the milk with something even more flavorful, you can add eggnog to the mix. Once the cookies have cooled down, top them up with glaze and sprinkle some cinnamon on top for some extra hint of spice.

Looks like your midnight snack situation is covered, because you know if Taylor Swift recommends something, it’s bound to be brilliant.
