4 Top Bridal Fashion Trends From India Couture Week

Every year, the country’s top ateliers dazzle with their best at India Couture Week. And from these emerge trends that every fashion enthusiast becomes eager to sport. In a shoot with Noor Gupta, the gorgeous writer behind big-tech and consumer culture newsletter Touristy, HELLO! brings you the top four trends that shone on the runway — and beyond!

Trend: Bridal gowns & sparkle
Gone are the days when sarees and lehengas reigned supreme in a bridal trousseau. Today, brides increasingly opt for the ease of beautiful, flowing gowns that allow them not only fluidity in movement but also up their bridal style quotient. From Falguni Shane Peacock, Anamika Khanna and Dolly J to Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna and Siddhartha Tytler, designers, too, are taking the sparkly gown route, encouraging brides to ditch their conventional attires.

Trend: Jackets over sarees
“Jackets are only meant for either formal or wintry occasions,” says no one today! As witnessed this India Couture Week, designers showed exactly how they make a smashing ensemble with our favourite sarees, adding just the right hint of avant-garde to the traditional. Tarun Tahiliani, JJ Valaya and Rahul Mishra are among few of the many couturiers who, excel at this incredible sartorial pairing today.

Trend: Ivory is the new red
The classic red may be timeless, but it’s time for it to move over. Ivory has arrived as the palette cleanser to all the colour and chaos of Indian weddings. The rawness, versatility and simplicity of this soothing spectrum has seemingly replaced the crimsons and blush pinks, having found a permanent place in the couture collections of many a designer, including Falguni Shane Peacock, Sabyasachi, Tarun Tahiliani and Anamika Khanna.

Trend: Going bold with blouses
Halter necks, mutton sleeves, sensuous infinity blouses, frills and feathers, crop tops, bikini-styled embellished blouses, plunging neck and back lines, the use of sheer applique… It’s the era of bold blouses indeed. A daring choice, paired even with the simplest of sarees, is a sure-shot way to elevate a look. A glance at the latest couture collections of Rahul Mishra, Varun Bahl and Tarun Tahiliani is all the inspiration you’d need.
