Deepika Padukone & Other Celebrities Who Wore A Sari At Cannes

The world had been eagerly waiting to see what Deepika Padukone picks for her first red carpet appearance at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and the actress didn’t disappoint. Padukone, who has been appointed as one of the eight-member jury at the festival, brought old-world glamour and plenty of drama in her Sabyasachi sari.

The black and gold sari was paired with statement earrings from the designer’s Bengal Royale Collection and a headband from the same collection that, according to the designer, “pays homage to the traditional Indian matha patti headpiece with Art Nouveau detailing.”

With her hair swept up in a retro-inspired bun, the make-up matched the dramatic flair of the look with a graphic winged eyeliner a sun-kissed look for the rest of her face.
This is not the first time, however, when a Bollywood celebrity has worn a sari at the Cannes. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her 2003 red carpet debut at the Film Festival in a Neeta Lulla sari. Sonam Kapoor has given us several iconic sari moments, including her off-duty looks in a Rimzim Dadu sari and a cropped Masaba sari that went viral. Kangana Ranaut gave two memorable sari looks, with her shimmery black Sabyasachi sari and the Falguni and Shane Peacock corset and Kanjeevaram sari paired with wine-coloured opera gloves, but ultimately opted for a Michael Cinco gown and a ’70s inspired catsuit by Turkish designer Nedret Taciroglu. Here are some of our favourite sari moments from Cannes Film Festival over the past years…
