ICYMI, the Oscars rolled out the (not) red carpet for celebrities to show up in their best looks and celebrate films and the art of filmmaking at one of the biggest nights for movies worldwide. We’ve been treated to some incredible red carpet looks this season with the Golden Globes and SAG awards upping the ante for the Oscars, and the celebrities didn’t disappoint.
Classic glamour was the unsaid dress code for the night as the beige carpet was populated with sequins, dramatic silhouettes, and pops of colour. Malala Yousufzai’s silver Ralph Lauren gown made a case for modest chic dressing and made her stand out amongst the stars in all the good ways. Fan Bingbing matched her silver sequins energy in a blingy Tony Ward Couture gown with a dramatic green cape. Jessica Chastain channelled old-school Hollywood glamour in a silver Gucci gown. Emily Blunt added the right amount of bling to her off-shoulder white Valentino gown with earrings from Chopard.
Romantic gowns also had a moment at the Oscars this year, with celebrities like Zoe Saldana pairing her Cartier jewels with a Fendi slip dress. Best Actress winner Michelle Yeoh joined the trend with her stunning white Dior gown. The Little Mermaid actress Halle Bailey proved her Disney princess cred in her blue Dolce and Gabbana gown.
One of the most popular colours of the season, pink had to be present amongst the best dressed. The Whale actress Hong Chau’s pink Prada gown with a train, Stephanie Hsu’s pink Valentino gown, and Allison Williams’ Giambattista Valli gown with its massive opera coat are great examples of this.
But it was not all pastels and poof at the (not) red carpet. Dark and sexy glamour was brought in full force by Rihanna (and her baby bump) in her black Alaia ensemble. Lady Gaga opted for a black Versace gown fresh from the runway and Elizabeth Olsen’s Cartier jewels paired fabulously well with her black sequinned Givenchy gown. Our very own Deepika Padukone looked like a dream in her custom Louis Vuitton gown and Cartier jewellery.
The men, too, turned it up in their sharp tuxes and suits. Jr NTR brought the ‘Roar’ from RRR in his custom Gaurav Gupta suit with a tiger motif. His co-star Ram Charan looked equally dapper in a Shantnu and Nikhil ensemble.
Paul Mescal might not have won the Best Actor trophy at the ceremony but he sure earned a place in Best Dressed lists all around the world with his white and black Gucci tux with Cartier jewellery.
