ICYMI, Rihanna reminded everyone what an electrifying performer she is as she took the stage at the Super Bowl Halftime Show this year. The ‘Diamonds’ singer performed live for the first time in five years and did not disappoint. We got a riveting montage of some of her top hits, superb choreography by Parris Goebel, a surprise pregnancy reveal, and a sweet tribute to her close friend and one of the legends in fashion history.

Yes, Rihanna evoked Andre Leon Talley’s iconic blanket coat look with her stage outfit.

The singer was seen wearing a red catsuit and custom breastplate ensemble by Loewe with matching MM6 Maison Margiela X Salomon sneakers. Halfway through the show, Rihanna added a floor-length, sleeping bag jacket by Alaia on top of her look.

Fashion enthusiasts were quick to spot that the jacket resembled Talley’s iconic red Norma Kamali coat, a fact which was later confirmed by the late fashion icon’s representatives on Instagram.

Talley’s reps posted a side-by-side picture of the two wearing the red coats with Rihanna’s lyrics from ‘Umbrella’ as the caption, “When the sun shines, we’ll shine together. Told you I’ll be here forever… said I’ll always be your friend (sic).”

The pioneering creative director for Vogue and a legendary personality in the industry passed away in January 2022. Rihanna and Talley were, reportedly, close friends and had bonded over their shared love for fashion.
