ICYMI, Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul kicked off the celebrity wedding season by getting married in a gorgeous, private ceremony. To nobody’s surprise, the couple looked stunning on their wedding day and the photos shared on their respective Instagram feed is a testament to that.

The bride eschewed the traditional reds in favour of a pastel pink lehenga for her wedding look. Celebrity stylist Ami Patel, who helped put together her wedding looks, said that while red looks “amazing” on her, Shetty was adamant that she would not wear the colour for her wedding day. “She was clear that red is not a colour for her wedding day outfit,” said Patel, “She wanted to wear something more subtle. The colour she picked was so gorgeous, I am going to call it the Athiya pink from now on!”

The stylist also shared that the bride had a very clear idea of what she wanted her wedding ceremony outfits to look like. According to her, Shetty wanted her love for intricate embroideries and understated silhouettes to reflect in her outfits.

“The process of putting together everything was very organic,” said Patel, adding that the bride had made it very clear to her that she doesn’t want anything “garish” for her wedding and opted for a more subdued colour palette for her wedding. The bride wore a white and gold Ritu Kumar lehenga for her haldi ceremony,

Patel also shared that the bride wanted her wedding outfit to champion Indian craftsmanship and artisans. This is what led to her wedding outfit being an understated pink lehenga adorned with beautifully intricate chikankari embroidery.

The Mubarakan actress paired it with polki jewellery. “(Shetty) loves statement jewellery,” said Patel, “We had the outfit down before we selected the jewellery for the look. However, her mehendi look was the only one where we built the outfit around the vintage earrings that she wanted to wear that once belonged to her grandmother.”

For her mehendi, the actress had worn a custom Anjul Bhandari lehenga that complemented her grandmother’s earrings perfectly.

Patel firmly believes that Shetty’s understated bridal looks would set off a trend for other brides going for the road less taken when it comes to outfit colours and styles. “Just like Priyanka Chopra’s tone-on-tone red wedding lehenga, (Athiya’s) wedding outfits will also spark a trend of brides going for a more understated look for their weddings,” said Patel.
