Designer Jonathan Anderson’s eponymous label JW Anderson has toed the line between whimsical and ridiculous, remember the Pigeon Clutch from their FW22 collection or the goldfish dress that Emma Corrin wore at the premiere of My Policeman?

The designer’s most recent showcase at the Milan Fashion Week presented another opportunity for people to ask: Is it ugly or chic?

The label debuted PVC-shell-covered mules shaped like frog heads on the runway as part of its collaboration with British heritage brand Wellipets. This was in line with the design house’s FW23 collection which was inspired by nostalgia and the designer’s childhood.

Wellipets are iconic in the United Kingdom because of their association with Princess Diana and her two boys, Prince William and Harry. Photos of the two young royals accompanying their mother while wearing the green rubber frog boots have spurred the popularity of the brand over the years, leading to its collaboration with the luxury fashion house.

JW Anderson teased the partnership with the brand on Instagram last week, leaving people intrigued.

The brand’s version of the royal-favourite rubber boots is a slip-on mule with the characteristic frog-themed design, complete with the big, bulging eyes.

While we don’t know the reason behind the seemingly out-of-nowhere collaboration, there’s no denying that the frog mules look super comfortable and almost cute! The frog mules will also be available in yellow and blue.
