One of the world’s most-watched sporting events finally concluded with a bang yesterday at the nail-bitingly thrilling match between France and Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Aside from the historic performances by players on both sides, one of the most talked about things at the final was Deepika Padukone’s presence at the Lusail Stadium.

The Pathaan actress was present at the event to unveil the World Cup trophy. Padukone and legendary Spanish footballer Iker Casillas presented the trophy to the whole world after taking it out of its custom-made Louis Vuitton trunk.

Much like the coveted trophy, Padukone was dressed in an LV ensemble, which is not surprising considering she is the brand ambassador of the luxury label. Back in May, the actress became the first Indian to be selected as the face of the brand.

For the unveiling, Padukone wore a white button-down shirt topped with a brown futuristic-looking jacket that was cinched in with a wide belt. The actress paired this with a black skirt, matching boots and bold red lips.

Just like everything Padukone has been doing lately, this ensemble (and her presence at the finals) proved to be divisive for the Internet.

While many lauded her for being the first Indian to represent the country at the trophy unveiling, many questioned her credentials for the position.

The fact that her outfit was experimental, invited criticism and memes. There were some who completely missed the point and claimed that DP should have worn a sari which is something that they should take up with Louis Vuitton and not the actress.

While the world was busy fuming and engaging strangers online about her appearance, Padukone was enjoying the match with her husband Ranveer Singh at the stadium.
