Team HELLO!

When Kriti Sanon glided down the runway at designers Shantnu and Nikhil’s showcase at the Lakmé Fashion Week recently, we knew we’d be seeing monochrome lehengas and gowns in Diwali #OOTDs and wedding pictures this season.

The Mimi actress was the showstopper for the designers’ collection, titled ‘Capella’, and wore a stunning lehenga, adorned with crystals and delicate, tiered chain embellishments that were inspired by the chandeliers of the Palace of Versailles.

“We’ve always been fascinated with history and the grandeur it holds. Our work has always denoted a passion for reviving nostalgia and retelling stories that are long forgotten,” said the designers, adding that looking towards the past has given them a new outlet to explore their design philosophy, “A Shantnu and Nikhil bride who redefines bridal couture through the prism of historical abundance!”

The primary inspiration for the designers for the collection revisited the opulence of the majestic Baroque era and its artefacts, including the chandeliers. The name, too, serves to highlight shimmer and shine, as ‘Capella’ is one of the brightest stars in the galaxy.

The designers served an understated, yet glamorous, collection with streamlined silhouettes in shades of ivory, pewter, and black, tailored to perfection with rich fabrics. Their core maximalist philosophy shone through with the rich embroidery and embellishments that added pleasing movement to the garments.

According to the designers, the baroque lace embroidered using dori work and the delicate tulle tiers is perfect for a demure version of a new-age bride that shines bright like the Capella in the night sky.

This collection is a departure from the bold and graphic ‘Nomad’ collection in the previous edition of Lakmé Fashion Week, which comprised of sweatshirts and over-the-top silhouettes and mythological creatures as motifs. The one thing that links the two collections is the designers‘ love for all things bold and maximalist.
