It’s that time of the year again. It’s the time to celebrate fashion and designers and bookmark all the hottest trends that we’ll be seeing around for the upcoming season.

Anamika Khanna’s label AK-OK kicked off the proceedings with a vibrant collection where she debuted her much-anticipated menswear line, making us super excited for the collections that would follow.

If there was one word to describe what Day 1 of Lakmé Fashion Week looked like, it would be embellishments! Surface textures and embellishments of all kinds reigned supreme and there was a lot to take home as inspiration for the upcoming festive and wedding season.

The day began with the launch of INIFD GenNext Designers, followed by showcases from designers and labels like Khanijo, Mishru, Not So Serious By Pallavi Mohan, Geisha Designs by Paras and Shalini, Shahab Dourazi, and Shantnu & Nikhil.

Here are all the top highlights from Day 1 of Lakmé Fashion Week Mumbai edition…

Embellishments, embellishments, and more embellishments

One of the biggest trends spotted on Day 1 was surface textures and embellishments in various forms and techniques. From crystal beading to dramatic floral applique, you could not escape the embellishments. Designers Paras and Shalini had crystal balls attached to the ends of the fringed surface in their garments, making it seem as if the models were surrounded by hundreds of fireflies, a fact that delighted their show stopper Diipa Büller-Khosla.

Shahab Durazi’s return to the runway after 17 years

Indian couturier Shahab Durazi made a comeback to the runway after 17 years with a collection that, rightfully, earned him a standing ovation by the show’s attendees. The designer has always been a vocal supporter of slow fashion and proved this with his timeless pieces that were tailored to perfection.

Kriti Sanon’s top model secrets

Kriti Sanon, who turned showstopper for designers Shantnu and Nikhil, revealed that her past experience as a model gives her an edge over the other celebrity showstoppers as she knows how to work the runway like a pro. The Mimi actress recalled the time she walked for the designer duo as a model and how surreal it felt to close the show for them as a showstopper. A full circle moment, we say!

Celebrity cameos

It won’t be fashion week without a few star-studded runways and this edition didn’t disappoint. Aside from Sanon and Khosla, actress Mrunal Thakur was seen walking for Mishru and Diana Penty closed the show for Not So Serious by Pallavi Mohan.
