Ever since Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor announced that they’re expecting a baby, speculations about what Bhatt’s maternity style would be like started cropping up almost instantly. Would she go the Kareena Kapoor way and opt for flattening and fuss-free silhouettes or take a page out of Sonam Kapoor’s book of looking as if she’s stepped out of a fashion magazine spread with each look?

Like both these celebrity mammas, Bhatt’s maternity wardrobe was an extension of her own youthful and Instagram-trendsetting style.

Most notably, the Brahmastra actress wore a now divisive pink sharara set, with a cheeky ‘baby on board’ written on the back, for the movie’s promotion. Unsurprisingly, the outfit immediately spawned copies that could be spotted on countless baby announcement posts on Instagram.

Now the actress is readying herself to share her maternity style learnings with the rest of the world through a new addition to her eco-friendly and sustainable kidswear brand Edamamma. Recently, Bhatt took to Instagram to announce the upcoming release of a maternity line called Edamamma Maternity Wear.

In a prelude to the collection’s sneak-peek, the actress shared a short note on why she decided to create a line for expecting women. “It’s not like I’ve bought maternity clothes before. But when I got down to it, I was overwhelmed. You don’t know how you’re going to look or feel over the next few months and let’s be honest, not being able to find the right thing to wear can be stressful,“ she wrote.

She went on to add that, for her, comfort took priority over any “airport looks”, elaborating on the journey it took for her to arrive at her preferred maternity style. “Do I buy brands I already wear but in a bigger size? Should I raid Ranbir’s wardrobe? And just because my body is changing doesn’t mean my sense of style has to, right?”

The short clip reveals behind-the-scenes clips from the photoshoot for her maternity wear line. Bhatt can be seen posing in different outfits that would appeal to all kinds of moms-to-be, from soft, flowy dresses to slogan T-shirts.

In Bhatt’s own words, what started off as her trying to fill the gap in her existing wardrobe, led to an entire maternity collection. If you’re also someone who relates with the actress’ struggles, then you can check out Edamamma Maternity Wear post its launch on 14th October, 2022.
