Florals and Old-World Romance

Easy, breezy silhouettes created with light, breathable textiles were one of the standout highlights from Day 2. Designers like Diksha Khanna, Pratima Pandey, and Payal Pratap gave a beautiful twist to sustainable fashion with their romantic collections. Pandey’s collection was titled ‘Paro’, inspired by the character from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1917 novel Devdas, and reflected the designer’s love for anything floral. Pratap collaborated with Bemberg India to create a stunning and colorful collection using regenerated, sustainable fiber made from cotton waste.

The circus Was in Town

Designer Gaurav Khanijo’s love for circus came through with his showcase titled ‘Cirque Du’ Soul’ when he sent models down the runway holding huge bunches of balloons and decked up in garments with hand-embroidered circus-themed motifs all over them. To everyone’s relief, there were no actual clown sightings at the show.

Apocalypse Now

Nitin Bal Chauhan presented the stark truth at his showcase that if we don’t stop our excesses, our time will run out. Aptly titled ‘Countdown’, the show presented a conceptual collection designed using ink made from carbon collected from chimneys, vehicles, etc. It also featured innovative embroidery and construction techniques.

Star showstoppers

Noted art collector Shalini Passi closed the show for Vaishali S Couture, while actress and musician Shruti Hassan walked for Ujjawal Dubey’s Antar-Agni in all-black. Actress Kangana Ranaut turned up as the showstopper for the Khadi India showcase at LFW 2022.

Slumber Party by the Poolside Anyone?

Rajesh Pratap Singh concluded the evening with a big party filled with colour, music, and fashion. The designer shifted the runway to the poolside and had models present his collection amongst people reveling in the empty pool without a care. Beneath all the vibrant colours and music was a thoughtful and eco-conscious collection made in collaboration with R|Elan Fabric 2.0, a textile company that manufactures fabrics made out of recycled plastic bottles.
