One of the most-awaited events in the calendars of every fashion enthusiast in the country, Lakmé Fashion Week is back in its physical form in the post-pandemic world. Making its move from Mumbai to Delhi, the event opened big with a showcase at the Italian Embassy by designer Rahul Mishra, setting the tone for the exciting new launches to come. Day 1 marked the launch of INIFD Gen Next designers, giving us a glimpse of what we can expect from the industry in the future. Accessory brand Outhouse showcased their upcoming collection in a sports-themed presentation with models dripping in brightly coloured jewellery. Designers Samant Chauhan, Rara Avis by Sonal Verma, Shruti Sancheti, Alpana-Neeraj, Varun Bahl, JJ Valaya, and Shantanu and Nikhil also presented their upcoming collections yesterday.

Throwback to the early 2000s
Kaabia and Sasha Grewal took us on a trip down memory lane with their Y2K-inspired collection at their showcase. This collection also marked their foray into handbags, a step towards transforming Outhouse from just a jewellery brand to a lifestyle brand.
Geometric bodices anyone?
Designer-duo Alpana and Neeraj’s collection carried their signature blend of structure and flow with easy-to-wear materials moulded into structured silhouettes. The geometric bodices were our favourites from the duo.
Metallics, metallics, and more metallics
Metallics ruled supreme on Day 1 of LFW 2022. Designers like Samant Chauhan and Alpana-Neeraj used metallic accents in their collection, while Rara Avis by Sonal Verma and Shruti Sancheti highlighted metals throughout their designs.
Star-studded runways
What’s a fashion week without a healthy dose of celebrity spotting on the runway? On Day 1 of Lakmé Fashion week, influencer and fashion week regular Masoom Minawala closed the show for designer Varun Bahl, veteran actor Manoj Bajpayee walked for designer Samant Chauhan, Soha Ali Khan closed the INIFD Launchpad, and Mrunal Thakur strutted down the runway for JJV by JJ Valaya.

Last, but definitely not the least, is the stunning black, fringed lehenga by Shantanu and Nikhil that we just can’t get out of our heads. The designers championed fringe across their designs and presented it in new and unexpected ways, like the aforementioned black, fringed lehenga.
