When she spoke about body positivity
Chopra’s drastic fitness transformation was all anyone could talk about when the actress released pictures of herself looking much fitter than she used to be. While many praised her for her hard work, there were some who criticised Chopra for conforming to Bollywood’s beauty standards by shedding weight and getting fitter than before. The actress addressed the comments by saying, “I don’t negatively think about my body, and I also ask people not to overthink. I work out for hours every day but it comes from a place of wanting to be fit and not because I’m insecure.”

When she stressed on the importance of having a back up plan
While following our dreams and passions is important, it’s also equally necessary to have our feet planted firmly on the ground and be realistic. In a previous interview, Chopra addressed the importance of having that balance when she spoke about having a back-up plan. “I have a back-up plan and I think everyone should have one. The day when my films turn out to be a flop, I will go back to banking. To run my house, banking is the safe option for me.”

When she spoke about not following trends
Chopra’’s filmography is proof of the fact that she is fond of taking the path less trodden. The actress has played a wide variety of roles and continues to make off-beat choices that show her fans different sides of her as an actress. “Whenever I have tried to follow a formula or what someone else has told me that I should follow what others were doing. Every time I did that, it didn’t work for me. I was not satisfied with that work and neither were my critics, audiences or fans,” she said.

When she got real about failures
The actress has seen a lot of ups and downs in her trajectory in Bollywood. Instead of letting it bog her down, she spoke about how she got to learn from her failures. “A lot of people ask me if this affected me, if I was in a bad place, but the four years that was bad in my career, I still have a smile talking about it, because today I have reached a place where the way I handle myself, the person I am, I have never been happier, more at ease and calm, I have never been more powerful. It is all because I have experienced failure.” The Ishaqzaade actress went on to add, “That power comes from failures. I have had to see failure for the first time in my life. We see failure at the global level. That gives you a crash course in life. Today, I am able to be happy again. It is because of that.”

When she was brutally honest about her failing mental health
Unfortunately, mental health is still a subject that’s considered to be taboo in India. There have been some celebrities, like Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, who have come forward to talk about their own struggles with mental health issues. Another celebrity who has kept it real when it comes to going through a dark phase, mentally, is Chopra.

“I went into a shell. I stopped eating or sleeping well, and didn’t have any friends at that time. I never met people. I cut off touch with everyone including my family. I would talk to them once in two weeks. I was gone. I just used to be in my room, watching TV, sleeping, getting up, staring all day. I was a zombie. I was a typical filmy depressed girl. I would curl up on my sofa and sleep, falling ill all the time. I didn’t meet the media for almost six months.”
She added, “I literally took life into my own hands because I thought if I go into this pit, I’ll never come out again. I was 25 and very vulnerable emotionally. I never had any gravitas. I was just a flying bird who didn’t have anything holding me. I thought if I don’t get out of it now I never will.”
