HELLO!: You’re the winner of our ‘Popular Choice Award’. How exciting is this?
Hansika Motwani: “I’m really happy to be honoured with this title. It’s great to see people, critics and juries acknowledge my work and grant me such accolades. Honours like these are a tonic for actors. It instils more responsibility in us to push the bar and deliver more commendable projects. Nothing can offer the kind of contentment that getting acknowledged for your work and dedication does. Such accolades make me want to deliver better work to entertain audiences with the best performances.”
H!: Now more than ever, talent from South India is attracting the spotlight. Your thoughts, please.
HM: “I don’t believe in the concept of North and South India. Today, nearly all regional movies have a pan-India release. The lockdown bridged this gap and gave people the opportunity to consume different content. I’m glad to see all Indian talent coming together. I believe Indian cinema is going to take a huge leap and clasp a great position on the global panorama.”
H!: You’ve had quite the journey from being a child actor to being a southern superstar today. Tell us how it’s been.
HM: “Having faced the camera from childhood, cinema has always been an integral part of my life. Every profession has its positive and negative aspects. But there comes a time when we get beyond that point of duality. It’s been a journey of learning, unlearning, embracing, and adapting to changes. I feel blessed to see people showing me so much love and support and consider me part of their families.”
H!: Share some highlights of 2022 and what you most look forward to in 2023.
HM: “It was a great year, 2022. I will treasure it even years down the line. I got to explore the unexplored on screen with unique scripts and roles. And, of course, 2022 ended with my wedding. So it was truly a year I will cherish. This year looks bright and promising to me. There are a lot of projects lined up. I’m embarking on a new journey in the OTT realm, among other exciting projects. So I’m a happy girl with a great life at home and work.”
H!: Congratulations on your wedding! How has married life been so far?
HM: “It’s great fun getting married to your close friend. I’m elated to have found my soulmate, someone who knows me to the core. We’re great friends, and both of us are having a great time together.”
