H!: Share some highlights of 2022.
DM: “Shooting for Shaakuntalam was one of the best times and memories of 2022. The amazing feeling of debuting in Telugu is surely a highlight.”
H!: What’s your benchmark for success?
DM: “Success is quite subjective. To me, success is feeling content and happy about doing what I love the most. Like making good movies that appeal to me and everyone.”
H!: Now more than ever, achievers from South India are attracting the spotlight. Your thoughts, please.
DM: “We should be seen for our talent irrespective of where we are from. Though I’m glad the south is finally getting its due credit. South India has always had brilliant people doing some mind-boggling things. Thanks to movies like Baahubali and RRR, everyone is able to see it clearer now. Having said that, I feel the next step is to see India unite by talent, not by regions.”
H!: How would you define your sense of style?
DM: “My style is quite classic. I love everything classic. I choose sharp, solid looks. I like it clean and elegant, be it with Indian ensembles, suits or my casual wear.”
H!: What major changes have you noticed in the industry in the past decade?
DM: “People are now recognising true talent. One need not have a movie family background or any major backing from anyone. All one needs now is sheer talent and an understanding of the nuances of the craft. New talent is mushrooming everywhere, and actors are being given the spotlight, which is truly brilliant.”
H!: What keeps you motivated?
DM: “While it sounds cliché, the love for my craft and the love I receive from everyone around me truly inspires and keeps me going.”
H!: One thing you’re most thankful for:
DM: I’m thankful for this life and everything that’s led me to this point.”
