Today [December 9, 2022] is Bollywood’s favourite golden couple Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif’s first wedding anniversary and the Internet can’t get enough of their adorable relationship. With Instagram rife with their fans reminiscing the timeline of their romance and celebrating the duo’s milestone, let’s dive into how they both met.

Everyone expected the Sooryavanshi actress to attend this season of Koffee With Karan along with her husband Kaushal. But, instead, she appeared on the show with her Phone Bhoot co-stars, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ishaan Khatter. Even though the couple didn’t attend the show together, the film industry’s certified cupid, Karan Johar, made sure to at least investigate how they ended up getting together.

Kaif revealed that the Uri star was not even on her “radar” initially. She said, “I didn’t even know much about him. He was just a name I had heard but had never associated with. But then, when I met him, I was won over!”

Later, when Kaushal came on the show, he quipped that hearing the Welcome actress talk about him on Koffee With Karan was conducive to their union: “Whatever happened last season on this couch–it was really my moment to know that she knows about me. We had never met before that.”

Humble as ever, he also mentioned that he never imagined he’d marry the ‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani’ hottie. So, it’s no surprise that this modest and sweet man caught Kaif’s eye!

So, when did this power couple first meet?

For the uninitiated, the duo met at filmmaker Zoya Akhtar’s party, and their romance bloomed after that. Kaif and Kaushal had never even worked together in a film before that. It is believed that their rendezvous manifested on Koffee with Karan’s famous wish-granting couch. In a 2019 episode, Johar asked the actress who she would like to work with in her next project. The diva named our very own Punjabi munda, stating that they would look really good together.

When Kaushal found out about this during his KWK interview, he mock-fainted on the couch, inspiring loads of memes. The two also did an episode of Film Companion’s Tape Cast together, which is believed to be their first in-person meeting. During the chat show, they asked each other questions regarding their family, friends, and experiences while working in the film industry. The show served as an icebreaker between the actors who had never crossed paths before and were practically strangers.

Later, as the romance started to get serious, the lovebirds were spotted at various award functions, but they never admitted their relationship on paper. Kaushal even flirted with the diva on stage during several award functions and even jokingly asked for her hand in marriage once.

The couple made their first public appearance together at a friend’s Diwali party and were also seen attending the screening of Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s Shershaah. Though their public appearances were scarce, Kaushal was often spotted visiting Kaif many times at her home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Katrina was not expecting to fall in love.

As is the case with many of us who were surprised to see the couple’s gorgeous wedding photos online without any confirmation of whether they were even dating in the first place, Kaif too said that her relationship with the actor was “unexpected and out of the blue.”

“It was my destiny and it was really meant to be. There were so many coincidences that at one point all of it just felt so unreal,” the Kay Beauty founder said.

Kaushal, too, recently spilled the tea about his newly-minted wife and how she brought stability to his life on KWK.

“It actually does feel great. I really truly do feel settled. It’s a very beautiful feeling to kind of have that companion. And I just feel truly lucky to just find that in her - life partner. She is a wonderful soul and one of the wisest and the most compassionate people I have ever come across,” said Kaushal.

“I really learn from her a lot and she really grounds me. She is like a mirror to me. She would state out hard facts which I need to know and hear. And you always need that person with you. I truly feel fortunate to have her as my life partner,” he added.

Recalling events from the wedding, the star also shared how amidst the fanfare of their dreamy wedding, memes, funny tweets and farfetched speculations that were widely shared did not escape his attention; from drones being used for security to Kaushal making a helicopter entry.

”We had a blast reading those messages. Some of the most random things were being said...Something about drones being shot down.” the actor laughed.

“While all this random news was making the rounds, I was just there with the pandit ji saying, jaldi nipta dena [wrap this up quickly] please. Ek ghante se jyada nahi [don’t take more than an hour],” the Raazi actor admitted.

“Every day during the wedding, these funny memes, tweets and messages would be shared on the internet and we were aware. We had my friends who read them out for us to have a good laugh. We used to have a blast finding them,” Kaushal revealed. “My moment on this couch last season was my way of knowing that she [Katrina Kaif] even knew I existed,” the star quipped.
