In today’s edition of news that will make you go “Hmm, this is bizarre but not bizarre enough to distract me from my daily tasks”, it has been reported that Queen Elizabeth and Tom Cruise were secretly good friends.

According to the Sunday Times of London, the late British monarch was a big Top Gun fan and became good friends with the actor when he visited the country to take part in the celebrations of the Queen’s 70-year reign.

Back in May, Cruise travelled to London for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations where he participated in the Gallop Through History equine pageant too. Since the elderly royal was absent from the event because of poor mobility issues at the time, she missed Cruise’s performance and was, by all accounts, really disappointed.

“The Queen let it be known that she was really disappointed not to have met (Cruise) at the pageant, so he was invited to have a special tour of Windsor Castle with everything laid on for him,” revealed the source, “Afterwards, just the two of them had tea together.”

The two had the best time bonding over her favourite ‘Jam Pennies’ sandwiches, we assume, and really “hit it off”. The Queen was, reportedly, charmed enough to let the actor fire a ceremonial gun, fly by in a helicopter, and even get an invite back for lunch with the royal.

Unfortunately, the Queen passed away a few months after their meeting at the age of 96.

Cruise has always been an admirer of the royal and has spoken about how he admires her devotion and dignity.

The actor is yet to confirm the wholesome news of his royal friend-date with the Queen.
