Looks like Boomers and GenZ finally have something fun to talk about because two legendary artists of their generation gave us a surprise performance, which will be impossible to forget. As the iconic Billy Joel took to the stage of New York’s Madison Square Garden for his 82nd sold-out show, he brought on seven-time Grammy award-winning GenZ star, Olivia Rodrigo to join him on the stage. Rodrigo, who has often used Billy Joel references in her songs, finally got to perform those songs with the legend himself, while also blessing us with a rendition of his iconic hit single, ‘Uptown Girl’.
While introducing the ‘drivers license’ singer, Joel said, “She’s very talented. I like her music, and so do my kids.” The duo also performed Rodrigo’s hit single, ‘Deja Vu’, where she sings out the lyrics of the song, “I bet that she knows Billy Joel ‘cause you played her ‘Uptown Girl,’” and “I was the one who taught you Billy Joel,” which definitely earned her some brownie points from the ‘Piano Man’ singer.
Olivia Rodrigo, who just recently completed her world tour for her first album, Sour, is currently working on her next album. The 19-year-old singer was not the only artist to join Billy Joel at the MSG residency, artists like Bruce Springsteen and Miley Cyrus have previously joined in as guest performers. But, if we’re being honest, this is the duet that had our heart.
