Marvel’s upcoming TV show Ms Marvel has become highly anticipated, especially in South Asia. Not only is the show introducing MCU’s first Muslim superhero, it’s also going feature cameos from Fawad Khan and Farhan Akhtar.
The show is about Jersey teen Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) who finds herself in possession of superhuman abilities. Khan and Akhtar are joining other South-Asian actors like Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur.
Kapur, who plays Kamala’s father in the show, recently spilled about what it was like to have the Pakistani and Indian superstars on board. “They are stars. Just on hearing their names, the audience goes to buy tickets. They have earned that. We are making their mark. They are actually helping us,” said Kapur, on being asked whether he was upset with the fact that the two actors are taking away all the attention from the rest of the cast, “When we heard that Fawad and Farhan are doing it (the show), we were so excited. Imagine the flip the show is going to get in South Asia and world over, because they have fans all over. It’s a huge thing. It’s very small if you start thinking ‘I am in more episodes, so why are they talking about them’. That’s a very small way of thinking. They propped us up.”
These two are not the only South-Asian superstars the cast is excited about. In the show, Kamala is a big Shah Rukh Khan fan and the writers used this character note to ensure there are many SRK references sprinkled throughout the series. One of the show’s writers Sana Amanat even spoke about how they would reshoot the show if SRK agrees to appear for a cameo in the series!
Ms Marvel will premiere on June 8, and will be a set up for the film The Marvels (2023), which will see Vellani reprise her role as Ms Marvel.
