ICYMI, the newest star kids on the block, Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda, and Khushi Kapoor, are making their debut with Zoya Akhtar’s take on The Archie comics. Yes, you read that right.

The acclaimed director is bringing the beloved comics to the big screen, with a desi twist and if her latest Instagram post is to be believed, the movie has officially hit the floors today.

Akhtar took to the social media platform to share a photo of a clapboard announcing details of the first shot of the movie.

“Back to The Future” read the caption to her post, while her co-producer Reema Kagti shared the same photo announcing that this was their production house Tiger Baby’s first solo project.

The director announced the project late last year, saying, “It was a large part of my childhood and teenage years. The characters are iconic and globally loved, which is also why I am a little nervous. I have to make sure the film stokes the nostalgia of a generation that grew up on the comic and yet resonates with the young adults today.” She also revealed that the coming-of-age musical drama would star Khan, Kapoor, and Nanda in the lead roles.

In the same statement, Archie Comics’ CEO/Publisher Jon Goldwater expressed his excitement with Akhtar at the helm of the project. “We know that these characters have global appeal and translating them into other settings and cultures is just the start of what we have planned for future multimedia adaptations,” he said.

While no further details have been confirmed yet, reports suggest that Suhana Khan would be playing the role of Veronica Lodge and Khushi Kapoor will be playing Betty Cooper. Agastya Nanda will play the titular Archie Andrews. The film will, reportedly, be shot in and around Ooty.
