“(Kiara) wanted to try something different than usual and so we decided to go with a futuristic look to match her sleek outfit,” says Nishi Singh, Advani’s hair stylist for the look, “She loved it so much that she texted me the next day congratulating me on nailing the look!” Ayesha DeVitre, who styled Pandey’s hair for the red carpet revealed that the look was a last-minute decision. “Initially we had narrowed down on a sleek ponytail for her. After she got into her whole look, I couldn’t help but think that there was something missing and that we could take the look up a notch. So we turned the ponytail into a braid. This was a last-minute decision and it completely changed the look!” she says, adding that Pandey’s willingness to trust her team with experimental looks has to be given some credit for the look.

“The first thing I did was to part the hair in the centre and divide the front of the hair into two small sections,” says Singh, “After clipping these sections to keep them away, I took the rest of the hair and tied them into a high ponytail. Then I took the sections from the front and added them to the ponytail using pins. This adds a bit of height to the front of the ponytail, giving it some 60s drama. I used a bungee cord to secure the ponytail tightly, but you can use a regular elastic here as long as it has a good grip. Then I took a thick black thread and wrapped it around the bungee cord, at the base of the ponytail, 10-12 times to give it the illusion of being lifted up. Now that the ponytail is done, I divided the ponytail into two equal sections and twisted them both in the opposite direction one-by-one, until I reached the end of the tail. I used an elastic to secure the end and then covered it with a black thread to hide it.”

“I blow-dried and ironed the hair out first, especially because Ananya’s hair is wavy and it’s humid in Mumbai,” says DeVitre, adding that if you already have straight hair, you can skip this step. She continues, “Then I tied it into a high ponytail. I usually like to keep a centre parting while I do the ponytail. Once that was done, I tied a fishtail braid all the way to the bottom. Then I used a transparent hair mascara to tame the flyaways and sprayed the whole hair with a little bit of hairspray to keep everything in place.”
