The 2023 answer to the gorgeous glazed doughnut nail trend of 2022 is here and it’s prettier, more stylish, and definitely easier to achieve. The ‘Lip Gloss’ nail trend is fast gaining popularity online and is being adopted by all your favourite ‘It’ girls, including Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, and even the strongest champion of glazed everything Hailey Bieber.

The nail manicure trend comes right at the heel of the growing adoption of all things dewy in beauty, from skin to make-up.

While matte nails and make-up is still very much prevalent in beauty trends of the season, glossy beauty looks are clearly the favourites. One of the biggest reasons for this is the return of all things Y2K, which means that glossy lips are back with a vengeance.

The sudden love for ultra-shiny lips achieved through shimmery gloss or the current favourite lip product—lip oil, has made people fall in love with the ‘Lip Gloss Nails’ trend as well.

So what are Lip Gloss Nails?

A first cousin of the glazed doughnut nail, the Lip Gloss Nail trend mimics the plush and shiny finish of lip gloss applied on the lips. It is similar to the glazed trend of the past year but it’s more sheer and looks more natural than the older trend.

It’s a great way to sport clean and well-manicured nails without putting in much effort.

How to get Lip Gloss Nails?

Now that you’re sufficiently intrigued by this new trend sweeping the nail art side of Instagram, grab your manicure tools and get to work. You should start, obviously, by prepping your nails. So buff, clean, and file your nails into shape. Once you’re done preparing the nails, add a semi-opaque coat of nude or pink nail polish to your nails. Top this up with a clear ultra-glossy top coat and you’re done.

Additionally, you can add a little bit of shimmer to the nails by adding some chrome powder on top of the polish, but that’s a bonus step that you can skip in favour of more natural-looking nails.

The trend works on both long and short nails and can be achieved by using any nude-ish nail polish, from beige to pale pink. A quick hack to remember if you want natural-looking nails is to go for a polish that is closer to your skin tone.
